FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly backed Julian Álvarez’s ambition to move from Atlético Madrid to the Catalan club. The Argentine striker has formally notified Atlético of his intention to leave, marking a significant step toward fulfilling his personal dream of playing for Barcelona.

Although discussions with Atlético Madrid present challenges due to high demands, Barcelona remains resolute in their pursuit of Álvarez and actively seeks to finalize an agreement. Initial contacts between the clubs have already taken place, with further negotiations expected.

During his 64th birthday celebrations, Laporta refrained from explicitly naming Álvarez but clearly indicated the club’s openness to making the dreams of players wishing to join Barca come true. He remarked that most players take pride and desire to play for the club, expressing hope that Barcelona can meet these ambitions.

"It’s clear that dreams come true if you work hard and fight for them," Laporta said, underlining Barcelona’s prestige and appeal among elite footballers. He also shared plans to strengthen the club institutionally, oversee a new stadium project, and continue developing the sporting project.

Atlético’s valuation of the forward remains a financial hurdle for Barcelona. Meanwhile, alternative attacking options like Dusan Vlahovic are under consideration, though Álvarez remains the top priority.

The ongoing dialogue and efforts highlight Barcelona’s commitment to turning Álvarez’s dream into reality, potentially significantly boosting the team’s offensive capabilities for the 2026/27 season.
