Barcelona is actively working to finalize the transfer of defender Jorge Salinas before the transfer window opens on Wednesday.
The negotiations face a key obstacle in the valuation of the player; Barcelona relies on an €8 million release clause, while Racing Santander demands €16 million. Both clubs continue seeking a mutually acceptable agreement, but progress has stalled so far.
To expedite the talks, Barcelona has involved super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Salinas and has close ties with the incoming club president Joan Laporta. Mendes’s role is to mediate and help both parties reach a deal within the next 48 hours.
If an agreement is reached, Salinas would move immediately to Catalonia to join the first team under coach Hansi Flick. His versatility allows him to play either as a center-back or a left-back, positions where Barcelona has doubts heading into the 2026-27 season.
At just 19 years old, Salinas is seen as a promising defensive option and a contender for a starting spot in the coming years.
Barcelona aims to close the deal by Tuesday to maintain leverage in negotiations with Racing Santander.
