Joan Laporta is set to officially begin his new term as Barcelona president following the formation of a revamped board of directors that includes five new members and two new vice presidents, according to SPORT.
The initial agenda of the board’s first meeting will address the resignation of seven directors who managed the club during the interim period. These directors will be immediately reappointed by Laporta and must later be ratified by the Assembly of Delegate Members.
Members from Laporta’s previous board who will continue their roles include Elena Fort, Antonio Escudero, and Ferran Olive. The new additions feature economist Carme Hortala, who currently presides over Barcelona’s Economic Commission and will succeed Oriol Amat.
Other new directors bringing business expertise are Carles Ayats, a property developer linked to the 2010 presidential candidacy of Jaume Ferrer; Xavier Barniol, owner of a luxury resort and residential care homes; Jaume Santiveri, a senior real estate executive managing hotels; and Jaume Nicolas, an entrepreneur experienced in the automotive sector through the Nima Group.
Rafa Yuste will remain First Vice President, responsible for sporting affairs. Two new vice-presidential posts will be filled by Joan Soler for Marketing and Ferran Olive for Economic Affairs.
The restructuring of roles within the board reflects Laporta’s intent to strengthen the club’s financial management and economic capabilities during his five-year term.
