In 2024, FC Barcelona appointed Hansi Flick as head coach, with the German manager subsequently winning La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

Club president Joan Laporta had admired Flick well before his appointment and was advised in favor of Flick by German coach Ralf Rangnick.

According to Cadena SER, Laporta discussed football ideas with Rangnick, who recommended: "The best is Jürgen Klopp, but he doesn’t fit Barça’s style. Nagelsmann is the best tactically, but he doesn’t manage the dressing room well. Your man is Hansi Flick because he is tactically excellent and capable of managing the dressing room and young players."

Laporta waited for the right time to appoint Flick, who then achieved success at Camp Nou. The club president told Flick he "can stay as long as he wants," overseeing a contract extension that keeps him at the club until 2028.
