Jofre Torrents, a 19-year-old defender from FC Barcelona’s academy, is reportedly being considered for a loan move for the 2027/28 season to secure more playing time in senior football.
Torrents has previously been involved in Hansi Flick’s first-team preseason squads and made his La Liga and Copa del Rey debuts last season, alongside 15 appearances for Barça Atlètic. His contract runs until 2028 after a renewal last summer.
Barcelona views that Torrents has outgrown Barça Atlètic’s level in the fourth division and requires senior-level minutes to continue his development. Two clubs currently interested in loaning him are Racing Santander from La Liga and Dutch side Ajax.
Racing Santander is looking to reinforce their left-back position, with sporting director Chema Aragon expressing interest in Torrents. Playing in La Liga would provide Torrents competitive minutes at a high level.
Ajax is also pursuing a loan deal, although they have recently signed Caio Henrique for the same role, which could limit its suitability for Torrents.
Barcelona’s decision will likely focus on which option can guarantee more regular playing time. Maintaining control over the player while facilitating his growth is critical.
There is also a potential connection with Barcelona’s interest in Salinas from Racing. The negotiations over Salinas’s €16 million release clause involve the possibility of including Torrents in a loan arrangement.
