Aitana Bonmatí has been balancing intense physical preparation and recovery from an ankle injury she suffered in December 2025. Although she made a return in the final phase of the 2025/26 season, she continues to experience discomfort when subjected to load and impact on the joint.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Bonmatí has been following a rigorous rehabilitation program in Mexico City and the United States, including specialized treatment technology and demanding workouts to ensure full ankle readiness. She will not start preseason training under Pere Romeu with the rest of the team on July 27, instead continuing her individual recovery due to lingering pain.
This is not considered a relapse or serious complication, but medical evaluations identified unusual pain symptoms requiring further care. The recovery plan aims to completely resolve the discomfort ahead of what is expected to be one of the most demanding competitive seasons in the club's and national team’s history.
Entering her 14th season with Barça, Aitana is motivated to keep pursuing trophies with a squad that aims to compete for all major domestic and international titles once again.
