Ibrahim Diarra has been given a fresh opportunity to work with Barcelona's first team under Hansi Flick during the preseason.
The Mali-born midfielder missed nearly the entire previous season due to serious muscular injuries and subsequent setbacks. These physical problems hindered his development, despite being one of the promising talents in La Masia.
In response, the club devised an individual plan combining specific strength training and a controlled nutrition program designed to build a physical foundation to help him maintain consistent performances.
Diarra’s style is characterized by a combination of an imposing physique, technical skill, acceleration, and finishing ability. His capacity to link effectively with teammates is also considered valuable within Barcelona’s attacking system.
During the 2024/25 campaign, Diarra played an important role for Juliano Belletti’s Juvenil A team, especially in key moments including the UEFA Youth League. Now he faces the challenge of adapting to senior football.
His immediate future may include a split role between Barça Atlètic and Hansi Flick’s first team. However, with strong competition among young players, a loan move remains a possibility.
Flick assesses players primarily based on form rather than age or reputation, offering Diarra a renewed chance if he remains fit.
Diarra has resumed full training at the start of preseason, and his progress will be closely monitored ahead of the 2027/28 season.
