In the history of FC Barcelona, there have been candidates who nearly became club presidents but have since been forgotten.
Historically, Barça is famous for its great players and legendary coaches, as well as presidents who have shaped the club over more than 126 years. Notable presidents include Joan Gamper, Josep Lluís Núñez, and Joan Laporta.
However, a number of candidates who came in second place in elections or assemblies were well-known figures of their time but are now largely forgotten. These include Amado Casajuana (1953), Jaume Fuse (1961), Josep Maria Vendrell (1965), Pere Bare (1969), Lluís Casacuberta (1973), Ferran Ariño (1978), Sixte Cambra (1989), Ángel Fernández (1997), Lluís Bassa (2000 and 2003), Agustí Benedito (2010), and Víctor Font (2021).
Each had their own plans and visions for the club but failed to gain enough support. The most recent elections in 2021 were won by Joan Laporta, with Víctor Font finishing second. The next president and the candidate who almost wins will be revealed on March 15.
