FC Barcelona is set to receive an economic boost of approximately €2 million linked to the imminent transfer of former defender Sergi Dominguez to Serie A club Lazio.

The 21-year-old La Masia graduate is poised to sign a five-year contract with Lazio until June 2031. Lazio is negotiating with Dinamo Zagreb, where Dominguez has played since June 2025 following a €1.2 million transfer from Barcelona.

Barcelona secured a 20% future sell-on clause when transferring Dominguez to Dinamo Zagreb. Given Lazio’s proposed €10 million transfer fee, Barcelona stands to gain €2 million from the transaction.

Dominguez made five senior appearances for Barcelona under coach Hansi Flick before the club decided to transfer him to Zagreb for regular playing time. Sporting director Deco ensured Barcelona retained significant rights to the player, which now yields financial returns.

This fits into Barcelona’s summer strategy of generating profit from former players’ transfers, alongside names like Sergino Dest, Pablo Torre, and Ez Abde. Under La Liga’s new 1:1 financial rule, all income from such clauses can be immediately reinvested into first-team signings.
