Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future at Barcelona remains unresolved as the club searches for a solution regarding his departure.

After an uneventful loan at Girona, the German goalkeeper was linked with a move to Ajax. The new Ajax coach knows Ter Stegen and views him as a potential reinforcement in the goalkeeper position, which the club sees as a priority.

However, Ter Stegen’s salary, exceeding €15 million per season, is beyond Ajax’s financial capacity. The Dutch club can only offer a figure similar to what Girona paid during the loan — about €1 million — making a straightforward deal nearly impossible without substantial subsidies from Barcelona.

Barcelona is willing to cover the majority of his wages again for another loan, but prefers a permanent transfer to avoid repeating similar situations. The player’s recurring injuries over the last two years also make clubs hesitant to commit to a significant transfer fee or full salary.

With his contract running until 2028, Ter Stegen’s situation continues to be one of Barcelona’s challenging issues this summer.
