Barcelona Monitors Christensen’s Recovery Amid Contract Renewal Talks

Barcelona maintains active monitoring of its players' fitness during international breaks. Particular focus is on defender Andreas Christensen, whose contract expires on June 30, 2026. Negotiations are underway for a two-season extension, with the player expecting to finalize the agreement soon.

The club has closely followed Christensen’s participation in friendly matches for Denmark against the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine. After a strong performance in the first match, the club approved his involvement in the second, initially intended to be a single game appearance. This decision was coordinated with Barcelona’s medical staff and Denmark’s coach Brian Riemer.

Previously, Christensen suffered a partial tear of the left anterior cruciate ligament in December 2025. Continuous evaluation has confirmed a full recovery.

Barcelona plans to complete the renewal process by June 30, taking into account the player's condition and his expressed desire to stay with the club. Practically, this will secure the central defense position for the 2026/27 season.

Financially, the club remains stable despite upcoming expenses including the Spotify Camp Nou renovation. Barcelona intends to request approval from its Members' Assembly to increase credit lines for project completion. This balance between squad management and financial planning underscores the club leadership's dual responsibilities on sport and administration.
