Robert Lewandowski has officially left FC Barcelona and is set to continue his career with Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire. His contract with the Catalan club expired, and the parties decided not to renew, allowing the 37-year-old striker to leave as a free agent.
Lewandowski is expected to sign for Chicago Fire early next week after agreeing to terms. The Polish forward had been a significant presence for Barcelona since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022, helping the team win the La Liga title in his first season.
After a difficult second season, Lewandowski regained form during the 2024/25 campaign under Hansi Flick. The last season saw him face some injury issues and age-related challenges, but he nonetheless contributed to Barcelona securing their third league title in four years.
Gregg Berhalter, Chicago Fire’s head coach and sporting director, was instrumental in pursuing Lewandowski and envisioned him as a marquee signing. Lewandowski visited Chicago recently, inspected the club’s facilities, and ultimately decided to join the MLS side.
Leaving Barcelona as a club legend, Lewandowski embarks on a new chapter in MLS with Chicago Fire.
