Barcelona faced overwhelming demand for tickets to their Champions League away match against Atletico Madrid, scheduled for April 14 at the Metropolitano Stadium. The club had only 2,336 tickets allocated, but requests from supporters reached 5,291, more than double the available supply.
To fairly allocate tickets, Barcelona organized a lottery overseen by a notary. Successful applicants held ticket request numbers between 44,203 and 45,647. Tickets are priced at 50 euros and located in the visiting fan section, with collection set for match day.
The first leg of the quarterfinal tie will take place on April 8 at Spotify Camp Nou, which can host up to 62,000 fans. Having been semifinalists last season, Barcelona, coach Hans-Dieter Flick, and their supporters aim to secure the club’s sixth European title this campaign.
The intense demand for tickets highlights the strong interest in the Champions League in Spain and the passionate support Barcelona enjoys. The lottery was a necessary step to ensure fair access to limited seats in this highly anticipated fixture.
