UEFA set a deadline of June 8 for official bids to host the 2029 Champions League final. FC Barcelona is preparing to submit a full dossier for the Spotify Camp Nou, which after renovations will hold 104,600 spectators, becoming the largest stadium in Europe.

This submission comes after approval from the Spanish government; on May 26, the Council of Ministers endorsed the proposal driven by the Ministry of Education, Professional Training and Sports led by Milagros Tolón, with backing from the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

The main rival for Barcelona’s candidacy is London’s Wembley Stadium, already host to eight European Cup/Champions League finals. UEFA plans to select the venue on September 15 at the Executive Committee meeting.

Strong support from Barcelona City Council and Mayor Jaume Collboni underscores the club’s and city’s ambition to host the final for the third time, the previous being in 1989 and 1999. One challenge for Barcelona is the 2027 final scheduled in Spain at Atlético Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium, which also hosted the 2019 final.
