In June 1991, Barcelona advanced to the semifinals of the Copa del Rey following a commanding 7-0 aggregate victory over Sevilla in the quarterfinals. The first leg took place at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium where the Catalan side defeated Sevilla 4-0.

The scoring opened early in the 8th minute after a freekick near the area taken by Begiristain, who passed to Bakero. Bakero outjumped Salguero and scored a precise header beating goalkeeper Unzué. Four minutes later, the second goal arrived when Laudrup controlled the ball in midfield and passed to Stoichkov, who evaded two defenders and returned the ball to the Dane to chip it over the scrambling Unzué.

The third goal came in the 70th minute when Txiki Villa pressed Herrero, forcing a risky backpass to his goalkeeper, which Unzué could not prevent from entering the net. The closing goal in Sevilla came nine minutes from full time, with Eusebio running through the middle and striking a superb shot into the top corner, described as a “golazo”.

The return match at Camp Nou took place just three days later. All three goals were scored in the second half. At the 59th minute, a lateral pass from Julio Alberto reached Koeman, who dribbled past Salguero and Unzué and finished low into the net for the opener. The second goal came in the 78th minute from a defensive lapse, allowing Eusebio to control the ball and unleash a powerful shot into the near post. The third goal arrived in the 87th minute after a foul on Julio Salinas; while the Sevilla defense protested, Eusebio cleverly advanced the ball to Salinas who finished with a lethal strike.

Despite dominating Sevilla convincingly, Barcelona did not progress beyond the semifinals. They faced Atlético Madrid, losing the first home leg 0-2 and winning the second leg 3-2 away, which was not enough to qualify. Atlético eventually won the Copa del Rey that year, defeating Mallorca in the final.
