Barcelona has been offered the chance to sign Aymeric Laporte, who was one of the standout performers for Spain at the 2026 World Cup.

Spanish media indicate that the centre-back, instrumental in Spain reaching the tournament final after their win over France, was made available to Barcelona a few days ago.

Laporte, who previously played in the Saudi league, has shown excellent chemistry with Pau Cubarsi, conceding only one goal together during the tournament. His ball-playing skills and left-footedness make him an appealing option to strengthen Barcelona’s defense and potentially replace Inigo Martinez.

A major obstacle for the transfer is his current club, Athletic Club. Relations between Barcelona and Athletic have soured following recent transfer dealings with Nico Williams, and Laporte’s contract runs until 2028. This gives Athletic considerable leverage over his transfer fee, especially given his World Cup form.

If Barcelona want to sign the experienced defender, they will likely need to pay a significant fee to secure the move.
