Barcelona is actively working on signing Julian Alvarez this summer, but Atletico Madrid remains firm on keeping the Argentine striker for at least another season. If Atletico does not soften their stance, Barcelona will likely have to consider alternative attacking options.

Nunez, who previously played for Liverpool and Almeria, is expected to mutually terminate his contract with Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal during the summer window, allowing him to join Barcelona on a free transfer. His agent, Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta, has offered the club this opportunity.

There are questions about Nunez’s consistency at the top level, given his mixed form during his Liverpool spell. However, his successful time in Spanish football with Almeria suggests he could be a viable option.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is evaluating this and other alternatives as a contingency plan if the Alvarez transfer does not materialize or proves financially challenging.
