Ronald Araujo, FC Barcelona defender and captain of the Uruguay national team, suffered a mild muscle injury in his calf prior to the 2026 World Cup. On Sunday night, he traveled from Montevideo to Madrid to undergo an "express treatment" conducted by medical professionals who have treated him before.

According to the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), the treatment aims to accelerate the healing process. Araujo did not take part in group training on Monday but rejoined team activities on June 9. That same day, Uruguay flew to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where coach Marcelo Bielsa's training camp is based.

Barcelona's medical staff coordinated with AUF to support this treatment approach to shorten recovery time and prepare their captain for the upcoming match against Spain, scheduled for the night of June 26–27. The exact timing of Araujo's return to full match fitness remains uncertain.

The player’s condition continues to be monitored jointly by the club and the national team, with no further updates on recovery timelines at present.
