Frenkie de Jong is set for further medical assessments after returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a knee issue.
The midfielder will soon report back to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper for additional tests by the club’s medical staff. Initial examinations revealed an injury that worsened during the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign but fortunately without major ligament damage.
Following the initial check, de Jong was advised to continue conservative treatment and rest, which helped reduce swelling and allowed more comprehensive tests to be carried out, confirming the seriousness of the issue.
He is expected to be sidelined for three to four months, missing the start of the new season. Once reassessed, the club and the player will agree on the next steps in rehabilitation and optimal treatment strategy.
Despite the importance of de Jong to the team, Barcelona does not plan to sign a new midfielder in the current transfer window, relying on existing squad members. Meanwhile, the sporting department continues to consider options regarding Marc Casado, who may leave on loan or permanently if the right opportunity arises.
