Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona has reached a critical phase. The Polish striker’s contract expires on June 30, and both parties have yet to agree on an extension.

Following Joan Laporta’s re-election as club president, he expressed a clear desire to keep Lewandowski, emphasizing the player’s importance and the expectation of his best form in the season’s closing stages. Despite being 37 years old, Lewandowski remains one of the top scorers in Europe, having netted 114 goals in 182 appearances for the Catalan club. He ranks just behind four club legends, including Kubala and Suárez, in the all-time Barcelona scoring list for that number of matches.

Additionally, among players aged 35 and older in Europe’s top leagues, Lewandowski leads with 14 goals this season. His scoring rate of 0.69 goals per 90 minutes is the best in his age group. Laporta stated the club’s wish to keep him but stressed the final decision rests with the player.

By staying at Barcelona, Lewandowski can continue to provide consistent attacking output, which is crucial given the demanding match schedule. His experience and efficiency make him a valuable asset amid the club’s transfer strategy and fan expectations.
