Barcelona’s primary focus this summer remains strengthening their attack, having already signed Anthony Gordon and nearing completion of the Karim Adeyemi transfer, with Julián Álvarez as their main target. Nevertheless, the club is also monitoring potential defensive reinforcements in case some defenders leave.

Sporting director Deco recently held meetings with the agents of two center-backs: Cristian 'Cuti' Romero from Tottenham and Castello Lukeba of RB Leipzig. These meetings, according to Spanish media, are not negotiations but rather part of Barcelona's strategy to keep alternatives ready should they need to reinforce the defense.

Romero has expressed a desire to leave Tottenham, and both coach Nagelsmann and Deco believe he would fit well at Barcelona. However, his €60 million price tag places him beyond Barça’s financial reach. Lukeba, a 23-year-old with further growth potential, is also considered an interesting alternative but would not come cheaply either.

Currently, the need to sign a new center-back depends on possible departures. No formal negotiations have started yet, as Barcelona prefers to keep their options open.

The club aims to maintain defensive stability while preparing for different scenarios ahead of the transfer window.
