FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta attended the 2026 World Cup semifinal between Spain and France in Dallas. During this event, he met with FIFA president Gianni Infantino to discuss plans related to hosting the tournament’s 2030 final.
Laporta was accompanied by Barcelona legend and FIFA ambassador Hristo Stoichkov. Their conversation demonstrated mutual cordiality and focused on infrastructural considerations for potentially holding the final at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium. The venue is one of the candidates for the 2030 World Cup final alongside Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu and the under-construction Hassan II stadium in Morocco.
Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni previously endorsed Spotify Camp Nou as a candidate during the recent MD Gala. Laporta himself stated at his inauguration that the stadium “would be the ideal setting for the 2030 final.”
The meeting combined the sporting interest of watching the semifinal live with a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening ties between the club and international football authorities. For Barcelona, securing the World Cup final at their home stadium would enhance the club’s global prestige and potentially boost its commercial and infrastructural capabilities.
