During Barcelona's 7-2 Champions League victory against Newcastle, goalkeeper Joan Garcia injured his calf and was substituted in the 81st minute, replaced by Wojciech Szczęsny. Garcia felt discomfort in his left leg immediately after the incident.
According to Marca, Garcia mentioned after leaving the pitch, "If I touch here, it's very hard," indicating the pain. Cadena COPE reported that he might have a small tear in his soleus muscle. He is expected to undergo medical tests soon to clarify the extent of the injury.
AS reports that Garcia has a minor tear in the left calf muscle and is projected to miss two to three weeks. While this is a setback for Barcelona, the injury occurs just before an international break, allowing him to recover without missing many important matches.
Barcelona’s next fixtures include a La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano, followed by a break for international matches. The season resumes on April 4 with a La Liga game against Atletico Madrid. This recovery timeline suggests Garcia could return in time for the Champions League quarterfinals and subsequent La Liga matches against Espanyol and the second leg against Atletico.
