Fermin Lopez has returned to training at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper as the club prepares for the upcoming season. The midfielder injured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a La Liga match against Real Betis, which required surgery and sidelined him for several weeks, ruling him out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Throughout the summer, Lopez followed a rehabilitation plan balancing rest with individual training sessions. Now back at the club’s training ground, he is working on the next stage of his recovery but is not yet expected to train at the same intensity as the full squad when preseason officially begins.

This injury represented a significant setback for Lopez, who had secured a key role in Hansi Flick's team and was expected to be part of Spain’s World Cup squad. Barcelona remain cautiously optimistic about his progress, with the focus on ensuring he returns fully fit without rushing his recovery ahead of the demanding 2026/27 campaign.
