Jan Virgili, a talented winger and former La Masia product, has expressed openness to rejoin FC Barcelona. Currently playing for RCD Mallorca after a €3.5 million transfer last summer, the 19-year-old still has 50% of his rights owned by Barcelona along with a first refusal option.
In an interview with SPORT, Virgili revealed he left Barca due to a lack of first-team opportunities under coach Hansi Flick, despite joining the preseason training and having hopes to prove himself. Facing limited chances, he accepted Mallorca’s offer to continue his professional growth.
“If Barça called me, it would be hard to say no,” Virgili admitted, recalling his dream experience playing for Barcelona’s Juvenil A team — where he won the Cup, League, and Youth Champions League — as well as featuring for the B team.
The relegation of Barça B also influenced his departure, as staying in the reserves following their drop would have hindered his development. At Mallorca, Virgili has adapted well to La Liga’s top flight, impressing with his dribbling skills and assertiveness.
Barcelona’s sporting department is reportedly monitoring his progress closely, considering a potential return amidst uncertainties on their wings. Virgili’s current form and mentality suggest he could still have an important future at Camp Nou.
