In the Copa del Rey Mapfre semi-final, Barcelona’s goalkeeper Joan García began the match with a crucial save in a one-on-one against Giuliano Simeone, but on the 7th minute an error turned the game. A backpass from Eric García to keeper Sallen was mishandled, the ball slipped beneath a foot and resulted in an own goal that put the opponents 1–0 up.
García tried to clear the ball over the goal line, but by then it had already crossed. Shortly afterwards, Lookman finished the follow-up action to make sure there was no doubt about the scoreline, even if the original ball had only momentarily grazed the line.
The Barcelona keeper attempted to recover and remained involved in subsequent plays, but could do little to stop Antoine Griezmann’s goal about five minutes later. Overall, Barça had a very poor start at the Metropolitano.
