Barcelona is preparing to adjust the contracts of defender Gerard Martin and defensive midfielder Marc Bernal to match their current importance within Hansi Flick’s squad.
Both players previously signed deals extending to 2025. Martin renewed in January 2025 until 2028, initially with a modest release clause of €100 million. Having cemented his place as a regular starter, the club now aims to offer him improved terms.
Bernal’s contract was extended in September 2025 to 2029, with a release clause of €500 million, following his recovery from a year-long injury. As a key member of the team, his salary and contractual conditions are also due for reconsideration.
Both came up through Barcelona’s youth ranks—Martin joining in 2023 and becoming a reliable deputy to Balde, while Bernal has been with the club since he was six. These moves demonstrate Barcelona’s strategic focus on retaining homegrown talents and acknowledging their growing contributions.
By revising contracts to reflect their roles, the club fosters a supportive environment that motivates young players to continue their development amid higher expectations. This careful guardianship signals Barcelona’s intent to build a stable squad with a strong foundation for the future.
