Barcelona is making steady progress in the redevelopment of Camp Nou and expects to receive approval for Phase 1C of the renovation in the coming days. The permit is anticipated from the Barcelona City Council by Friday or Monday.

This approval would allow the reopening of the North Stand, known as Gol Nord, increasing stadium capacity from around 45,401 to about 62,000 spectators. The club hopes to have this in place for the La Liga match against Sevilla scheduled on May 15. The fixture coincides with the club’s presidential elections, adding further significance.

The increased capacity might also be used for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Newcastle on May 18. Season ticket holders will be given 24 hours to apply for the 14,000 new seats released, with a lottery system in place if demand exceeds the tickets available.

Securing the Phase 1C permit marks a crucial step towards restoring one of football’s most iconic stadiums to its former glory. Gradual reopening will help enhance the atmosphere and commercial opportunities for Barcelona as construction works continue.
