Julian Alvarez hopes for €100 million promise from Atletico amid Barcelona interest

Forward Julian Alvarez remains a key figure in Barcelona's transfer considerations this summer.

According to Spanish media outlets, Alvarez has submitted a transfer request at Atletico Madrid. However, the Spanish club insists that any interested party must pay his €500 million release clause as they do not intend to sell.

Alvarez is reportedly acting based on a belief that Atletico committed to facilitating his departure if an offer of around €100 million arrives. His public statements following Argentina's match were seen not as spontaneous outbursts but as a calculated move to maintain Barcelona's interest and pressure Atletico into honoring this alleged understanding.

The player's stance was essential for moving negotiations forward; without it, the operation risked stalling.

Atletico, however, has hardened its position. CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin, aware of reported interest from Real Madrid, has increased the asking price, insisting on the full release clause payment rather than the €100 million figure Alvarez believes was promised. Gil Marin has even publicly questioned Barcelona's financial capacity to carry out the deal.

Barcelona’s initial bid has been around €90 million plus variables, structured in installments, but Atletico considers this insufficient.
