Jofre Torrens has been regularly training with Barcelona’s first team this season, with Hansi Flick seeing special potential in the youngster.
A natural left-back, he has made his first-team debut and appeared several times under the German manager, being rated as one of the academy’s best young left-backs. However, Alejandro Balde’s improved fitness and Gerard Martin’s rise, coupled with Joao Cancelo’s arrival, have limited his first-team opportunities this season.
Last night, he played a match for Barça Athletic but suffered a heartbreaking injury that looks very serious, as reported by SPORT.
The youngster did not start the game against Alcoyano for Barça Athletic, which ended in a 1-1 draw, but he went down in pain shortly after coming off the bench.
Torrens was helped off the field by medical staff and the club’s personnel, visibly grimacing in severe pain, with the injury seemingly to his knee.
It was clear that Torrens could neither walk nor bear any weight on his left knee after the injury, which is not a good prognostic sign at all.
Concern was evident on the faces of Barcelona’s youth director Bojan Krkic, Torrens’ teammates, and the entire coaching staff, suggesting this is likely a serious blow.
Hansi Flick will hope the injury is not too severe and that Torrens can return in a few weeks. However, initial signs point to the injury possibly being massive, potentially an ACL or associated ligament damage.
