Barcelona were active during the January transfer window, not only in matters concerning the first team but also in strengthening the reserve squad. As part of those moves the club signed Egyptian prospect Hamza Abdelkarim to bolster Barça Atlètic's attack. Still, a new injury to Óscar Gisau has pushed the club to look for another forward for the reserves.
With the January market now closed, Barcelona are prepared to explore the free‑agent market to reinforce the reserve team. According to Diario SPORT, one player on their radar is Jon Cabo, a former Athletic Club youth product.
Cabo is available to join Barça Atlètic immediately, having been without a club since leaving CD Lugo last summer. The 25‑year‑old brings plenty of experience from the lower tiers of Spanish football, having featured in 79 matches for Athletic Club’s reserve side. Primarily a left winger, he can also operate on the opposite flank and, if necessary, as a centre‑forward—traits that make him a useful option for Juliano Belletti’s coaching staff. The need for reinforcements has been heightened by a run of injuries affecting Barça Atlètic, including Dani Rodriguez, Aziz and Sama Nomoko, while Abdelkarim’s legal process could take several months.
Given the circumstances, signing Cabo as a free agent would be a sensible short‑term solution to shore up attacking options for the remainder of the season without incurring a transfer fee. The club appears to be considering this kind of pragmatic move to address immediate needs in the reserve squad.
