FC Barcelona has renewed contracts with two promising academy players — 16-year-old goalkeeper Elyott Daussy and left-back Ahmed Abarkane. Both will progress to the Juvenil B team for the next season, a key step in bridging youth football and senior professional tiers.
Daussy, originally from France, joined Barcelona in 2023 from Mallorca’s academy and has been a consistent presence in the under-16 squad coached by David Sánchez. Abarkane, of Moroccan descent and born in Olot, moved to Barcelona from Girona a year later and is also a crucial player at this age group.
José Ramón Alexanko, Barcelona’s director of youth football, was present for the contract signings, highlighting the importance the club places on nurturing these players. Further renewals with other academy prospects are expected to be announced soon.
The under-16 team is currently in strong contention to claim the División de Honor league title this season, leading by seven points with just three matches remaining, which represents a motivating environment for the development of these talents.
These contract extensions reflect Barcelona’s long-term strategy to cultivate homegrown players. Confirming these young athletes’ futures within the club boosts morale for both the players and supporters while reinforcing the academy’s reputation as a breeding ground for elite talent.
