FC Barcelona is working to renew Marc Casadó's contract before the end of the current season, SPORT has learned. Several clubs are monitoring him and both sides have already held initial talks. There is no rush to reach an agreement: the length and financial terms of a new deal still need to be defined, and negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
Competition in Barcelona's midfield is very strong (Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Fermín López, Marc Bernal, Dani Olmo and Casadó). Casadó enjoyed continuity last season and has been linked with multiple clubs. Atlético de Madrid, under Diego Simeone, moved in winter to try to sign him, but the player's response was to keep his focus on Barça: "Whenever there is the possibility of wearing this shirt and this crest, it will be my priority." If he needs to reassess his situation, it will be in the summer with the season closed, not during the winter market.
On the pitch, he played the full 90 minutes against Mallorca at the Camp Nou last week, started against Atlético and was later substituted when Flick brought on Robert Lewandowski; against Girona he again began from the bench. No final decision on his future has been made: Casadó aims to succeed at Barça but also needs regular minutes to develop. If his playing time does not increase by season's end, the normal step would be to review options in the summer transfer window.
The player has shown patience and has prioritized the sporting project over higher financial offers. He had first-team call-ups under Xavi and, while not always in the starting eleven, continued to work hard; under Flick last season he had a prominent role and performed well. He is focused on training at his best and seizing every opportunity to reclaim a significant role.
