Atletico’s sporting director, Mateu Alemany, has opened talks proposing that Torres remain at Camp Nou for the last year of his contract before joining Atletico as a free agent. This approach would avoid a transfer fee and include a signing bonus for the player instead.
For Barcelona, the timing is delicate, especially after the arrival of Karim Adeyemi. The club reportedly is committed to renewing Torres’ contract, even if that means paying an additional €7-8 million to Manchester City. However, talks have slowed due to salary expectations.
Paris Saint-Germain has also been linked to Torres, but Atletico’s strategy differs by being willing to wait until the summer of 2027 to make the move.
Barcelona has not officially confirmed any offers from other clubs and remains focused on extending Torres’ contract to maintain its attacking options for the upcoming season.
