Aitana Bonmatí (28) is taking important steps in her recovery as she aims to return to the pitch.
The Barcelona midfielder fractured the distal part of her left fibula on November 30 during a training session ahead of the UEFA Women’s Nations League final — a match Spain won 3-0 with two goals from Clàudia Pina and one from Vicky López. After surgery she began rehabilitation, and if everything goes according to plan she could make a comeback in the final stretch of the season.
Bonmatí posted an encouraging carousel of photos on her social accounts showing gym work, captioned “confía en el proceso,” signaling that with consistency, discipline and the right mindset she is getting closer to her goal step by step.
If her recovery continues well, a return to the field could come in spring for the season’s closing phase, though it will depend on her physical response during the final readaptation stage. For now the images are promising: Aitana is progressing and doing so steadily.
Besides focusing on recovery, she keeps adding to her achievements: less than a week ago she travelled to Madrid to receive from Their Majesties the Reina Letizia Award as the best athlete of 2023 at the National Sports Awards held at the Palacio El Pardo.
