Barcelona's interest in Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni is becoming more concrete as negotiations progress. A key element is the player's willingness to leave Inter and move to Barça, which aligns with the club's readiness to sell one of their key players.

Under the ownership of American fund Oaktree, which took over Inter in 2024 following financial troubles, the club is focused on balancing the books and controlling investments. Bastoni, acquired from Atalanta in 2017 for around €30 million, is almost fully amortized with a residual value of approximately €2.6 million. Selling him for about €60 million would yield Inter a profit of over €57 million, helping to balance their accounts and create liquidity for upcoming transfer windows.

Beyond the financial gain, Inter would also save roughly €11.5 million in wages, providing more flexibility in the market. Although losing Bastoni would weaken their defense, the economic benefits seem to outweigh the sporting drawbacks.

The player's preference strongly favors a move to Barcelona or renewing with Inter, refusing other tempting offers, especially from English clubs. Barcelona has been proactive, with sporting director Deco engaging Bastoni's representatives since December to stay ahead of competitors.

The final step involves agreeing with Inter on the terms, possibly combining a fixed fee with player exchanges. This transfer could be pivotal for Inter’s financial restructuring and a significant reinforcement for Barcelona’s defense within budget constraints.
