Atlético Madrid’s CEO and president, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, has firmly closed the door on Julián Álvarez’s potential transfer to Barcelona. Despite Barcelona’s multiple bids, including an initial €100 million and hypothetical offers reaching €150 to €200 million, Atlético remains steadfast in retaining its Argentine forward.

The club has communicated its position clearly to the player, his representatives, and Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta. Gil Marín emphasized that Álvarez is the perfect striker for Atlético and that the club strongly believes he belongs at Atlético Madrid.

Earlier this year, Álvarez expressed his desire to “fulfil a dream,” which was widely interpreted as an intention to move to Barcelona, although he never explicitly named the Catalan club. Nevertheless, Atlético’s stance has been unwavering, with no intention to negotiate a sale under any terms.

Álvarez’s contract runs until 2030, including a €500 million release clause, further reinforcing Atlético's strong position. Club president Enrique Cerezo also reaffirmed that there are no plans to let the player go despite the intense interest from Barcelona.

Given Atlético’s firm rejection and open refusal to negotiate, Barcelona faces a decision: continue pursuing Álvarez or explore alternative options to strengthen their attacking line for the upcoming season.
