Rising midfielder Tommy Marqués, 18, who made his first-team bow at the Camp Nou against Mallorca, has been named in Barça Atlètic’s squad for this evening’s clash with Barbastro at the Johan Cruyff (18:00). Despite the spectacle of playing in the main stadium, the young central midfielder has made clear that he views himself primarily as a Barça Atlètic player and remains grounded. He entered the match for the first team in the 84th minute as a substitute for Fermín López and was part of a midfield entirely formed by La Masia graduates alongside Casadó and Bernal. It was brief playing time, but enough to make an impression.
The club confirmed that Xavi Espar has been declared fit after recovering from his injury and is back in the squad; there are no new signings included. Several other players are in transitional situations: Ons ein is still adapting, Hamza is awaiting the completion of paperwork, and Pacífico is recovering from muscular issues.
Born on 30 October 2006 in Barcelona, Tommy joined Barça in the summer of 2015 from CE Europa as a benjamín. According to the academy, his development has been steady since then, advancing through the ranks and establishing himself within Barcelona’s youth structure. He began the 2023/24 season on loan at CF Damm but returned midseason to Juvenil B. In his third youth season he played a notable role: 23 league appearances (1 goal), seven Youth League matches and five Copa del Rey fixtures. After winning the treble at that level, he extended his contract and made the step up to Barça Atlètic.
His Barça Atlètic debut took place on 7 September against UE Porreres in the opening round. Since then he has accumulated 15 appearances for the reserve side, showing consistency and personality in central midfield. His first-team debut came after several call-ups by Hansi Flick.
