Barcelona has officially announced that American singer Olivia Rodrigo will be the next music icon featured on the club's shirt for the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid on May 10 at Camp Nou.
According to football-espana, the main shirt sponsor Spotify selected Rodrigo for this promotion. At 23, she gained fame as a Disney star in “High School Musical: The Series” and has since earned three Grammy Awards. This campaign coincides with the release of her third album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love," scheduled for June 12.
Rodrigo continues a line of global music stars promoted on Barça’s shirts during El Clasico matches, following big names like Ed Sheeran, Drake, Rosalía, The Rolling Stones, Karol G, and Travis Scott. The design featuring her name is yet to be unveiled but is expected to be linked to her new album title.
The club has already organized photo sessions with the jersey and top team players, and Rodrigo's presence at Camp Nou during the match is anticipated, mirroring previous celebrity guests including Travis Scott last season.
She is no stranger to Barcelona, having performed successfully at Palau Sant Jordi in June 2024 during her 'Guts World Tour,' captivating the local audience.
Analytically, this partnership highlights Barcelona and Spotify’s strategy to fuse sports with global music culture to broaden their audience. The club not only strengthens its image among youth but also gains a marketing boost tied to the album release. This move helps Barça maintain global spotlight as both a sports and cultural brand.
Furthermore, Olivia’s expected attendance will elevate media attention on the match and fortify links between fan and music communities, crucial amid fierce rivalry with Real Madrid and La Liga’s worldwide growth.
For fans, this marks another step toward popularizing the club globally and offers a unique chance to connect with contemporary music movements through their favorite team.
