Barcelona president Joan Laporta has once again addressed the situation regarding striker Julian Alvarez during the 2026 World Cup. He emphasized that big clubs cannot afford to have unhappy players in their ranks.
Despite Atletico Madrid insisting that Alvarez is not for sale this summer, Barcelona has made an offer, and the player has made it clear he wants to leave. Laporta urged Atletico to take advantage of Barcelona's proposal and let Alvarez go if he doesn't wish to stay.
"When a player wants to leave, Barça's stance is that if a player wants to leave Barça, we will make it easy for him. A big club can't afford to have unhappy players," Laporta told Spanish media.
He added that "it's no longer just a question of the offer made, but if there's a good offer, you have to take advantage of it."
Laporta remained optimistic despite Atletico CEO Gil Marin stating the club would not sell Alvarez even for €200 million.
"We have an offer on the table. He’s a player our coach wants, and that’s why we made the offer to Atletico Madrid. It's a very important and very, very good offer for us," he said.
He also expressed respect for others' opinions, mentioning that many times players once considered unlikely to join Barcelona have ended up signing. Laporta reiterated that Barcelona's offer will remain valid until the end of July, after which the club would move on to other targets.
