Barcelona continues to show interest in Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, who reportedly intends to accelerate his move to the Catalan club.
According to Spanish media, despite Barcelona’s official offer of €100 million, Atlético’s board is refusing to negotiate. Álvarez’s contract runs until 2031 and includes a hefty €500 million release clause.
The player reportedly feels betrayed by Atlético, as the club had promised to enter negotiations if a suitable offer came in, which did not happen after Barcelona’s approach. As a result, Álvarez plans to make a public gesture—possibly before the end of July or by early August—to push for direct talks with the club hierarchy.
During the World Cup, Álvarez made his wish to leave clear: "I spoke with the club officials I needed to speak with. I believe a transfer is the best thing for everyone, and I want to fulfil my dream." Potential moves to other interested clubs, such as Arsenal, seem off the table since the Gunners have shifted their focus to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.
At Barcelona, both the sporting management and coaching staff see Álvarez as an ideal addition to strengthen the attack. However, the club will only make further offers once the deadlocked negotiations are reactivated by the player’s own initiative.
Atlético will begin preseason training under Diego Simeone on August 10, which may influence the transfer dynamics.
