Barcelona faces a setback in their search for Robert Lewandowski’s successor as Bayern Munich prepares to open urgent negotiations to extend the contract of England striker Harry Kane, which currently runs until June 2027.
According to reports, talks will begin as soon as Kane returns from his summer break. Bayern's management aims to quickly secure an extension to prevent rival clubs from making offers and to avoid starting the next season with their key forward in the final year of his deal.
Barcelona had shown interest in Kane, especially after complications arose in pursuing Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid. The Catalan board inquired about Kane’s situation and explored financing options for a transfer given the impending end of his current contract.
Bayern intends to extend Kane’s contract by one or two more seasons. This outcome seems most likely, considering Kane has repeatedly expressed satisfaction living in Bavaria and Bayern views him as a cornerstone of their project.
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham in August 2023 in a deal reportedly close to £100 million including add-ons.
