Barcelona holds a 20% sell-on fee from the transfer of former defender Sergiño Dest, who is currently playing a key role for the United States at the home FIFA World Cup.

Spanish media report that Dest might move to one of the Bundesliga teams, with Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen among the potential destinations. The deal with Leverkusen is reportedly approaching completion, with the German club offering around €20 million, while Dest’s current club PSV Eindhoven demands €25 million. If the transfer happens at the higher price, Barcelona would earn about €5 million from the sell-on clause.

Dest developed in AFC Ajax’s academy before Barcelona signed him as a young right-back prospect. He has had loan spells at AC Milan and then PSV. A serious injury complicated his stint at PSV, leading the Dutch club to decline a purchase option of €11 million and acquire him for free.

Nevertheless, Dest has steadily improved and matured as a player and now appears ready to return to one of Europe’s top five leagues. He is also making an important contribution to the United States at this World Cup, where they won their Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 with Dest starting. Their next opponent is Belgium.

Barcelona stands to benefit financially from Dest’s potential transfer, adding a valuable income stream to their current transfer strategy.
