Barcelona continues to produce promising young players through its reserve team Barça Atlètic and the La Masia academy. However, not every prospect manages to break through to the first team.

Victor Barbera, a 21-year-old striker and La Masia product, who returned to Barcelona after a brief spell with Club Brugge in Belgium, is set to leave the club. His contract expires at the end of the current season, after which he is expected to join Real Valladolid, a Spanish second division team, on July 1 as a free agent.

Barbera impressed with eight goals in 23 games during the 2022/23 season for the youth side, and despite injuries, he scored six goals in seven matches for Barça Atlètic in the current campaign. However, with limited opportunities to advance to Barcelona’s senior squad, he has chosen to move on for more regular playing time.

This transfer underscores the difficulties young La Masia talents face in making the step up. For Barbera, the move to Valladolid presents a chance to develop further through consistent minutes at a competitive professional level.

Barbera’s departure is a familiar story among Barcelona’s youth players who often seek growth outside the club. His next chapter highlights the broader pathway many promising talents follow in pursuing their football careers.
