Barcelona is growing increasingly uncertain about securing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal and is exploring other options before the summer transfer window. Sporting director Deco has several alternatives in mind, including Andreas Schjelderup, Victor Munoz, and notably a former club player, Jan Virgili.
Virgili left Barcelona last summer to join Mallorca, where his all-around play has been impressive despite recording only four assists in 22 La Liga games. The Catalans have monitored his development closely throughout the 2025-26 season.
While Barcelona lacks a buy-back option for Virgili, they retained 40% of his rights. His release clause at Mallorca stands at €30 million, but he could be acquired for around €18 million, which is financially advantageous given the interest from several European clubs.
Should Barcelona decide against a permanent move for Rashford, Virgili's chances of returning to Camp Nou will rise significantly. His familiarity with the club and evident potential make him an attractive reinforcement option. Mallorca, however, will only sanction a transfer if the release clause is activated.
For now, the club has yet to make a final decision regarding Rashford, while Virgili remains a key candidate to strengthen the squad in the upcoming transfer period.
