Barcelona has officially completed the signing of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, agreeing on a five-year contract. The transfer fee is believed to be approximately €70 million, potentially rising to €80 million based on variables.

Before joining Barcelona, Gordon was in talks with Bayern Munich and had reached a personal terms agreement with the German champions. He expressed his desire to play for Bayern and called the club 'his club.' However, Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl had a budget limit of €60 million, which was below Newcastle's asking price. This left Bayern disappointed by Gordon's last-minute change of heart.

In his first press conference with Barcelona, the 25-year-old English forward spoke fluent Spanish and even some Catalan, stating, "Since I was a boy, I have dreamed of playing for Barcelona."

Regarding his tactical role, with Robert Lewandowski leaving and Raphinha still at the club, Gordon is expected to compete with Ferran Torres for a starting spot. Meanwhile, Barcelona continues to pursue a number nine striker this summer, which may influence Gordon's playing time on the left side of the attack.

Financially, this is a significant deal for Barcelona, setting new expectations for their offensive line heading into the 2026/27 season.

"Han sido dos semanas vertiginosas, las mejores de mi vida," Gordon said in his first interview after signing, highlighting the personal importance of the move.
