During the January transfer window, FC Barcelona brought in Joao Cancelo on loan to strengthen the first-team squad.
Regarding departures, Marc-Andre ter Stegen left the club to join Girona on loan in search of regular playing time.
Some other squad players with limited minutes this season were also linked to departures, but nothing materialized.
One such player was Roony Bardghji, who had several loan offers during the winter transfer window, according to SPORT.
Numerous offers were sent for the Swedish winger in January as he was viewed as an attractive option on the market.
The fact that he was barely used by Hansi Flick attracted the attention of European clubs who inquired about a loan move for the second half of the season.
However, Flick and sporting director Deco made it clear the player would stay. The German head coach believed he could not afford to lose attacking options in case of injuries in the squad during the latter part of the season.
Thus, despite his minor role in the manager’s rotation, Bardghji was not given the green light to leave in the winter window.
Reports also say Bardghji himself was not keen on leaving. He is making the most of every minute in the first team, training alongside role models and absorbing instructions from the staff and advice from more experienced teammates.
That does not make his situation any less complicated. Bardghji has just one start in the last 11 official matches. In six of those games, he did not play a single minute.
Out of 1,170 total minutes played this year, he has accumulated just 192, which is 16% of the total.
So far this year, he has started twice, once in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final when Lamine was injured, and the 20-year-old seized the opportunity with a goal and two assists.
The coming months will also be important for the winger’s future at Barcelona. If his momentum continues, the possibility of a loan move or even a permanent transfer could be considered.
