Karim Adeyemi is set to take center stage at FC Barcelona after several days of waiting for the formal announcement of his move from Borussia Dortmund.
The German winger arrived in Barcelona last Wednesday, underwent medical examinations a day later, and has already met Hansi Flick at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training ground.
It is reported that once club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco return from the United States, where they attended the World Cup, the signing will be officially announced, likely on Monday. The transfer agreement has been finalized, with no concerns over the operation itself.
Barcelona will pay Borussia Dortmund €22 million as a fixed fee, plus up to €7 million in add-ons related to titles and appearances. Additionally, Dortmund will retain 20% of any future transfer fee. Adeyemi is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around €6 million net per season.
His presentation is scheduled between Tuesday and Wednesday, after which he can start training properly under Flick. He might even be considered for minutes in Friday’s friendly against Europa ahead of Barcelona’s preseason camp in England.
Adeyemi is expected to provide cover for Lamine Yamal but can operate across all three attacking positions due to his versatility. Flick knows the winger well, having given him his debut for the German national team.
Former Dortmund coach Niko Kovac acknowledged what the team will lose without him, pointing out the player’s speed as a vital asset that created dangerous situations. Kovac also confirmed that Adeyemi has said goodbye to his teammates, wishing him well.
With the official announcement nearing, Barcelona now turns full attention towards securing the center-forward they still need.
