Ferran Torres emerged as a decisive player for Spain at the 2026 World Cup, scoring the winning goal in extra time of the final, securing the country’s first title since 2010.
According to MARCA, Torres’ impressive tournament display has driven up his market valuation, creating complications for his contract renewal which is set to expire in June 2027. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the final, strengthening his bargaining position.
Barcelona and Torres are scheduled for a crucial meeting next week to negotiate the extension. No formal offer is currently on the table, but the meeting was agreed upon and is a top priority for sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta.
Paris Saint-Germain, among other European clubs, have expressed interest in Torres, adding pressure on Barcelona from both a financial and sporting standpoint. The club could consider a sale given the high demand and the player’s leverage.
Negotiations were delayed last season due to the €8 million owed to Manchester City upon renewal and Financial Fair Play restrictions. Notably, Torres featured in all eight of Spain’s matches at the World Cup, including a stoppage-time assist for Mikel Merino against Portugal and the decisive goal in the final.
His 2025/26 season also highlighted his importance with 21 goals and 3 assists across 49 appearances for Barcelona.
