The club is content with the performances of young midfielder Marc Casado, yet his long-term status is still undecided: Barcelona have not ruled out selling him next summer if they receive an attractive offer.
Casado has experienced an unusual season at Barcelona. After turning down offers from several European clubs last summer, he chose to stay and fight for a place in the squad. Still, up to this point he has accumulated just over 1,100 minutes across all competitions.
In La Liga he has appeared in 16 matches, but only eight of those were starts. That distribution of playing time raises questions about his long-term role at the club.
According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are satisfied with Casado’s displays and his commitment, but the report stresses that the La Masia graduate faces fierce competition in midfield.
Casado is competing for a starting berth with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Eric Garcia and the recently integrated Marc Bernal. With Gavi also expected to return soon, the youngster’s importance to the side could decrease further.
As a result, the club has not dismissed the possibility of a summer sale if a suitable offer arrives. The report adds that Casado’s priority is to remain at Barcelona and prove himself, but if his situation does not improve he may begin to consider other options.
The youngster has previously been linked with a move to Atlético Madrid, and more recent reports suggest that a transfer to Saudi Arabia could be viable. For now, Casado remains focused on Barcelona at least until the end of the season.
The coming months will be decisive as both the club and the player assess the situation and make a final decision on whether Casado will stay or look for a new challenge.
